Sun Certified Solaris Associate (SCSAS)

This certification is for university students and other beginners seeking to gain basic knowledge of UNIX with a Solaris Operating System (Solaris OS) emphasis. Candidates will learn basic UNIX commands and tasks, performed in the Solaris OS environment.

Section 1

  • View and Use Components of a Solaris System
  • Perform the login process using the command line and change the password
  • Execute basic commands from the command line
  • Access online documentation and resources relating to the Solaris environment

Section 2

  • View the contents of files and directories using the appropriate commands
  • Use commands to create, move, copy, rename, and remove files and directories
  • Use the vi editor to edit files and customize a vi session
  • Describe common Korn shell variables, including metacharaters
  • Define the purpose of each initialization file, and the shell it is designed for
  • View and change file permissions using octal and symbolic notation
  • Use the umask command to view and modify default file permission settings
  • Define, view, configure and delete access control lists on files and directories

Section 3

  • Search for directories and files on the system using the find command
  • Search for content and strings within files with the grep command
  • Describe the life-cycle of a process and perform basic process monitoring
  • View a process, search for a process, and terminate a process

Section 4

  • Advanced Shell Functionality
  • Perform advanced Korn shell functionalities
  • Job Administration
  • Use aliases and functions
  • Configure shell variables and settings
  • Write and run shell scripts

Section 5

  • Archive Files and Remote Transfers
  • Use commands to create, view, and retrieve file archives
  • Compress, view, and uncompress files and perform remote file transfers
  • Perform remote connections to establish a remote login session
  • Copy files and directories to and from another system
  • Transfer files between systems

NOTE – SCSAS Certification for the Solaris 10 OS is now available, consisting of one multiple-choice exam.
