Oracle Solaris?

Wow, what a slap in the face… I used to teach for SunEd (Sun Microsystems Education) back in the late 90′s and when you said Oracle, you meant data base, and that’s it. The Enterprise solution back then was known as VOS – Veritas/Oracle/Solaris… Now I think Oracle owns them all.

It’s bad enough to have the data-base that you’ve protected and provided network access for since day-1 to buy you out, but to defile the name Solaris buy placing Oracle in front of it is a little much I think. I can’t see this being a resume’ highlight for Sun…

They are even getting rid of key tools and free resources that engineers have been using for years. Why? Because they want to charge you for them silly… They are even getting rid of the BigAdmin website that engineers for Sun, with Sun, and at Sun have been building and using for over ten years that I know of…

It’s a garage sale from where I’m standing. Looking back, I was a little bit curious as to why the new CEO of Sun Microsystems changed the stock symbol from SUNW to JAVA a couple years back. Maybe he had this little buyout (sellout) deal all arranged from the get go. Hmmm… buying a big business and selling off its pieces for a profit…

Sincerely,

Randy Bowen
